In-House Testing Laboratory
From raw material to finished product to the weld metal produced, we test every step ourselves, without the detour via external laboratories. This keeps lead times short and results directly usable.
capiLab is our in-house laboratory for materials testing, component analysis and failure investigation. Materials, components and damage patterns are examined in-house, without the detour via external laboratories.
This means results are available quickly, can be evaluated directly and feed immediately into the next measure – whether material selection, adjustment of a welding consumable or component optimisation.
In this department we test and develop materials, from raw material through weld metal to the finished component.
Sample preparation, wire EDM, sinker EDM
Spectral analysis, EDX analysis by scanning electron microscopy (SEM)
Light microscopy for microstructural assessment, carbide distribution and defect description, macroscopy and coating evaluation
to HB, HRC and HV
to ASTM G65-A, ASTM G75 Miller test and ASTM B611 as well as in-house methods (wear pot for mixer parts, wear pot for technical knives, impeller method structured like ASTM G65-A)
Assessment of the corrosion resistance of a material under real operating conditions
Development of new materials to customer specifications
In this department we analyse the bulk material itself to design the appropriate wear protection for the respective application.
Eluate production for chemical analysis of the bulk material
Ion chromatography, pH value and electrical conductivity
Assessment of bulk material characteristics
Selection of suitable welding consumables, development of new materials to bulk material requirements
capilla relies on camera-based quality assurance with high-resolution detailed images directly in the welding process. Continuous monitoring enables maximum precision, exact process control and the early detection of even the smallest deviations. This makes it possible to produce welds reproducibly in high quality and to optimise processes in a targeted manner.
With capiLab we have our own testing laboratory that is more than just an in-house service provider. It is the foundation of our quality assurance and the place where new materials are developed from requirements.
From raw material to finished product to the weld metal produced, we test every step ourselves, without the detour via external laboratories. This keeps lead times short and results directly usable.
Every batch of our welding consumables undergoes documented quality controls, from the initial inquiry through specification to ordering. This keeps the properties reproducible and verifiably documented.
Our tests are conducted to ISO 9001 as well as the requirements of Deutsche Bahn, the CPR, EN 13479:2017 and VdTÜV bulletin 1153. This makes results applicable in regulated industries.
If a standard material is not suitable, we develop a tailored alloy in capiLab. The new material composition is tested in the laboratory before going into production.
By analysing bulk material characteristics, we design the wear protection specifically for the material that actually occurs in operation. This creates a solution that matches the real load, not an assumption.
Insights from the laboratory feed directly into welding consumables, coatings or component solutions. Since testing and implementation are both in-house, there is no break between diagnosis and application.

capiLab is our in-house laboratory for material, process and quality testing along the entire value chain. From raw material through finished product to the weld metal produced, every step is examined and documented here.
capiLab serves the continuous quality assurance of our welding consumables. Every batch is tested with documentation so that the properties of the products remain reproducible and traceable.
capiLab is divided into two areas: Alloys and Bulk Materials. In the Alloys area, materials are tested and developed; in the Bulk Materials area, the bulk material itself is analysed to design the appropriate wear protection.
All investigations are carried out in accordance with recognised standards and regulations, including ISO 9001, the requirements of Deutsche Bahn, the CPR, EN 13479:2017 and VdTÜV bulletin 1153.
The entire process from the initial inquiry through the specification phase to ordering is accompanied by documented quality controls. The tests cover everything from raw material through finished product to the weld metal produced.
We use both standardised methods to ASTM G65-A, ASTM G75 Miller test and ASTM B611, as well as in-house, practice-oriented tests such as the wear pot for mixer parts, the wear pot for technical knives and an impeller method. This allows materials to be compared in a targeted manner for each application.
Yes. If a standard material is not suitable for the application, we develop new materials specifically to customer requirements in capiLab. The new alloy is tested in the laboratory and matched to the actual load on the component.
Bulk material analysis is used for the targeted design of wear protection solutions. Through eluate production, ion chromatography, and pH and conductivity measurement, we determine the bulk material characteristics and derive the appropriate welding consumable or suitable coating from them.
Since capiLab is part of capilla, the results feed directly into our own manufacturing of welding consumables, coatings and component solutions. Without the detour via third parties, lead times are reduced and insights from the laboratory lead directly to products and measures.
