Surface coatings protect components specifically against wear, corrosion and thermal loads. The key is selecting the right process and coating material – matched to operating conditions, base material and geometry.

Using typical applications, we show which coating processes make sense when and what properties they achieve.

Applications in Context of the Processes

Every coating process has its strengths. A durable, functional solution only emerges from the interplay of base material, coating material and type of load.

In addition to the surface coating, the coating material plays a central role. It largely determines layer hardness, adhesion strength and resistance to wear and corrosion.

capilla offers filler materials for a wide range of coating applications – matched to the process, base material and operating conditions.

To Welding Consumables

Automated Welding Processes at the capilla LCC

At the Laser Competence Centre, capilla brings together modern technologies for automated coating and manufacturing.

Components are precisely built up, heat-treated and optimised using laser-based processes. Processes, material deposition and results can be precisely controlled.

This creates solutions that go beyond conventional welding processes and cannot be achieved with standard approaches.

Frequently Asked Questions About Surface Coatings

That depends on the base material, type of load and required layer properties. The key is the combination of process and coating material – capilla advises you on the selection.

Thermal spraying is suitable for large-area coatings with high cost-effectiveness. It offers protection against wear and corrosion and can be applied to existing components without distortion.

HVOF (High Velocity Oxygen Fuel) operates at higher particle velocities and produces denser, more adhesive layers than conventional flame spraying. HVOF is preferred for demanding wear protection applications.

Laser cladding is ideal for high demands on layer quality, minimal heat input and precise material deposition. Particularly suitable for complex component geometries and high-alloy coating materials.

Service life depends on the process, coating material and operating conditions. With the right coating, service life can be extended many times over compared to uncoated components.
