WearPlates – composite wear plates against extreme abrasion

WearPlates – composite wear plates against extreme abrasion

WearPlates are wear-resistant composite plates for components and plants exposed to heavy abrasion, impact and high temperatures every day. A tough base plate carries a very hard, hardfaced wear layer.

Wherever bulk material slides, impacts or is conveyed – in hoppers, chutes, transfer points, mixers or on fans – the wear layer determines service life and downtime.

capilla manufactures WearPlates from its own welding-consumable expertise: matched to the material, the load and the component – as a plate, a cut part or a ready-to-install wear part.

Composite wear plates by hardfacing – harder where it matters

A WearPlate consists of a tough base plate and a welded-on wear layer. Flux-cored hardfacing creates a high-alloy weld deposit with finely distributed chromium carbides that protects reliably even under constant friction from mineral bulk material.

Depending on the load, we combine carbide types, number of layers and layer thickness. This allows plates to be designed specifically for pure abrasion, abrasion with impact or higher temperatures.

Why WearPlates increase service life

Composite plates protect exactly where unalloyed or simple steel would have worn out long ago. These properties make the difference in continuous operation.

                                        High wear resistance

High wear resistance

Layers rich in chromium carbides resist abrasion from sand, ore, clinker, glass or slag far longer than solid steel.

                                        Cut to size

Cut to size

WearPlates can be flame-cut, bent, drilled and adapted precisely to component geometries.

                                        Easy installation

Plates are bolted, welded or bonded – also retrofitted to existing plants.

                                        Material to suit the load

Material to suit the load

We match carbide type, layer thickness and hardness to abrasion, impact or temperature.

                                        Less downtime and follow-up costs

Less downtime and follow-up costs

Longer service lives reduce maintenance intervals, material loss and unplanned outages.

Worn plates can be reproduced at short notice from dimensions or samples.

Technical properties of the wear layer

The hardfaced wear layer typically reaches hardness values of around 58 to 65 HRC. Embedded chromium and special carbides (e.g. niobium) determine abrasion resistance; depending on the design, operating temperatures of around 350 to 600 °C are possible.

Structure and layer thickness

Base plate and wear layer are matched to the application. Through single- or multi-layer deposition we control overall thickness and carbide content – from thin linings to robust plates for high impact loads.

Typical fields of application

WearPlates protect transfer chutes, hoppers, slides, mixer tools, fan wheels, crushers and conveying elements – in cement, steel, mining, recycling, glass and power-plant applications.

WearPlates within the wear-protection system

Composite plates are often part of an overall concept. On request we look at the complete component and combine plates, hardfacing and suitable welding consumables into a coordinated wear-protection solution.

Frequently asked questions about WearPlates

WearPlates are wear-resistant composite plates made of a tough base plate and a very hard, hardfaced wear layer. They protect components against abrasion, impact and high temperatures.

The wear layer is applied to a base plate by hardfacing – usually with flux-cored wire. This creates finely distributed chromium carbides that give the plate its high abrasion resistance.

Yes. WearPlates can be flame-cut, bent, drilled and then bolted, welded or bonded – also retrofitted to existing plants.

Typical fields of application are the cement industry, steel mills, mining, recycling, the glass industry and power plants – wherever abrasive bulk materials place heavy loads on components.

Depending on the design, the wear layer reaches around 58 to 65 HRC. Carbide type and layer thickness are matched to the respective load.

Helpful details are plate dimensions, the desired quantity, information on medium, temperature and load and – if available – drawings or photos of the component.
